Children in impoverished communities are often at-risk of being exploited, abused or trafficked. Many spend their days in the hot sun approaching total strangers for money or food. Some dig through trash cans collecting recyclables. Police harass them and often deport them or lock them up in order to “clean-up” the streets for the day. For many, school is not an option for most because of the income they add to the family.
We have been working with these kids for over ten years and their struggle has inspired us to advocate for them in every way we can. It has served as a front door into the lives of these children and it is a safe refuge where we get to know each child and learn about their background so that when crisis occurs, we are well informed to help.
We are their advocates whenever they are without a voice. We advocate for their education, their dignity and their futures. We teach vocational skills that will help them grow beyond the streets.
